Hip Pain Treatment in St. Louis, MO

Walk, Sleep, and Stand Up Without Bracing for It

Hip pain is a master of disguise. Pain on the outside of the hip, in the groin, or deep in the buttock can come from the hip joint itself, irritated tendons around it, the sacroiliac (SI) joint, or a lower back problem sending pain downstream. Treat the wrong one and nothing changes. Dr. Joe Sas pins down the source first — then treats that.

Signs It's Your Hip (or Something Pretending to Be)

Hip trouble usually shows up in a few ways:

  • Pain on the outside of the hip when you lie on that side

  • Groin pain, or stiffness putting on socks and shoes

  • Pain getting up from a chair or out of the car

  • Buttock pain or pain near the dimples of your low back (SI joint)

  • Hip pain that comes with low back pain or pain down the leg

  • Stiffness or a limp after sitting for a while

The Approach to Hip Pain

We examine your hip, pelvis, low back, and how you walk — and when it helps, Motion Study X-Rays show how your lower spine and pelvis actually move. Care may include gentle adjustments to the pelvis, SI joint, low back, and hip; soft-tissue work; Radial Shockwave Therapy for stubborn outer-hip tendon pain; and a strengthening plan to keep it from coming back. If your hip pain travels down the leg, see our sciatica care too.

When It's Time for an Orthopedic Opinion

Advanced hip arthritis sometimes needs more than conservative care. If that's where your exam points, we'll tell you honestly and coordinate with orthopedic specialists from our trusted referral network.

Get seen urgently if hip pain follows a fall and you can't bear weight, or comes with fever, a hot swollen joint, or sudden severe pain.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is it my hip or my back?

That's the most common mix-up we see. Low back and SI joint problems can feel exactly like hip pain, so we test both before we treat anything.

Can a chiropractor help hip arthritis?

Often, care can improve motion and comfort. If your hip has reached the point where an orthopedic opinion makes sense, we'll tell you straight.

Why does my hip hurt at night?

Irritated tendons on the outside of the hip commonly hurt when you lie on them. We'll treat the tissue and give you sleep-position tips that help.

Do I need X-rays?

Sometimes. If your exam suggests joint or spinal involvement, imaging helps us see exactly what's going on.
